A cool roof is a roofing shingle system that supplies increased solar reflectance and thermal emittance by a special blend of reflective granules that can reflect up to 44 % of solar heat. This shingle system can reflect a larger amount of the visible infrared and ultraviolet wave lengths emitted by the sun therefore reducing heat transfer to the building or home. This new technology reduces the homeowner’s electrical bill and also reduces the demand on the power grid therefore reducing greenhouse emissions such as carbon and sulphur dioxide.
